What I wrote in 2017

I was pleased to have an essay published in issue 29 of N+1. Fairouz in Exile came out of a couple of years' worth of conversations with my friend Ahmad from Syria, who arrived in Germany in 2015. It's about exile, siege, routine and ritual, and the particular emotional contortions of refugee life in the age of social media.

I have also been working on Immanuel, a book-length essay for  Fitzcarraldo Editions, after I won their inaugural essay prize in 2016. It's fun and challenging to write something book-length. I hope to finish it later in 2018.
